A one-man show is something that live music seems to lack these days, other than your local writers' round or a self-written play. Well, look no further than Matt Maeson who performs alone on stage with his acoustic guitar and breathtaking vocals. Listeners may recognize him as an opener for Zach Bryan on his “The Quittin Time Tour.” Maeson, alternative rock and folk singer-songwriter, held a show at the Exit/In venue in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, to celebrate the release of his live album, “On My Cue: A Solo Experience.” The album takes the listener on an emotional journey through relatable moments in Maeson’s life as he performs the songs live at various shows across the U.S. Whether it’s struggle, success, or love, everyone can find themselves in this album.
Exit/In was the first venue Maeson ever played in Nashville back in 2017. Flash forward and he has sold out the venue by selling tickets through his Discord server. There is something so personal about small shows in smaller venues like Exit/In, giving the crowd a sense of connection with the artist. That is exactly what Maeson intended for this show, as this album has been long in the making and he wanted an exclusive experience with his fans before its release on Friday, Sept. 27. Before Maeson’s performance, budding artist Steinza opened the celebration. Describing himself as “introspective folk,” singing songs from his recently released EP “Visions of You,” and some unreleased music. He charmed the crowd with his unique vocal techniques and comedic backstories everyone can relate to.
Maeson enters the stage with an astounding “Hell yeah” chant from the crowd, beginning with his album's title track, “That’s My Cue,” on acoustic guitar. Jumping between acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and keyboard Maeson played all 20 tracks from his new album. Some of the noticeable crowd-favorite songs included “Cry Baby,” “Cut Deep,” and “Hallucinogenics.” Closing it out with “Legacy,” the crowd sang the song as if they wrote it themselves–one of those heartwarming concert moments you will think about for the next couple of weeks. Listeners can catch more of Maeson on tour with Zach Bryan with shows resuming this November, and can find his music on all streaming platforms.
