Olive Vox are a Texas-based alternative rock band formed by Parker James (vocals), Caden Shea (guitar), Ben Reid (bass), and Dayton Phillips (drums). Known for their high-energy live performances and emotionally charged songwriting, the band fuse elements of alternative rock, post-punk, and modern indie into a sound that feels both immediate and expansive. After opening for Toadies and Local H at The Queen in Wilmington, Delaware, our writer, Alexis Baldwin, had the opportunity to ask the band some questions about their journey, inspirations, and future plans.
A: Hello, I am Alexis, and I am here with…
OV: Olive Vox.
A: That sounded so enthusiastic guys, one more time.
OV: OLIVE VOXXXXXXX YEAH!
A: Alright they're gonna introduce themselves, and what you guys play.
OV: I'm Caden, and I play guitar. I'm Parker, I sing. I’m Ben and I play bass. Saved the best for last, I'm Dayton and I play drums.
A: Beautiful, What has been your favorite spot so far touring with Local H and Toadies?
OV: This tour, probably this one (Wilmington Delaware). Lowkey my monitor mix sounded hella good so I was just having fun. Yeah, it was pretty solid, shout out Delaware.
A: Your manager told me that you guys have new music coming out, can you guys tell us a little bit about that?
OV: Yeah it's an EP called “Trace It Back”, it's got a bunch of beautiful songs on there, let's elaborate boys. Well there’s songs on it that we recorded last year in two sessions, and I think they're pretty good.
A: Just so punk, I love it. This is great.
OV: And it drops September 18th, so check it out.
A: There you go, little September 18th date drop! And you guys are from?
OV: Dallas, Texas.
A: Dallas, Texas represent, such a far trek all the way up here. As a music fan, what has been your favorite concert that you've been to?
OV: Turnstile 100%. I went and saw turnstile in Los Angeles and that was an absolutely beautiful moment. It was beautiful. Turnstile but the first time we saw them at the Hollywood Palladium it was on the “Glow on Tour”.
A: Where are you most excited to go after this, because y'all have a nice hefty tour.
OV: Oh man, I don't even know, I like New York. I always like New York. She's going to the big apple baby! Yeah I was gonna say New York or Ventura cause I love Cali. I'm excited for Detroit because we’re playing the same venue and it has some roots to Eminem so that's pretty cool. Also, Texas cause that's where all our families are coming. I have a better answer, I’m excited for all of them.
A: Yeah that's probably the correct answer. Well, thank you guys so much for your time. We really appreciate it.
