Iconic songwriter duo Haute & Freddy were anything but a disgrace as they took the stage at Nashville’s Exit/In for their first headlining tour. The pair finally got to show their performance abilities and own personal songwriting style for the “Big Disgrace” tour as they have mainly been known in the music industry as songwriters for other artists such as Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue. This tour truly showcased their unique theatrical style as a popstars making a major breakthrough in the scene. The carnival themed set and medieval costumes transported the stage to their fantastical world, with a majority of the audience also dressing the part with wigs, clown makeup, corsets, and a variety of hats.
With one album under their belt, Haute & Freddy were able to guide the audience through the entirety of their 80s inspired record while peppering in a blend of other talents and spectacles. Between every few songs, Haute would break out into an improv song accompanied by a beat by Freddy, spoofing on things such as an audience member’s birthday or favorite activity. They even committed to the circus theme by juggling and interacting with clowns from the Fou Fou Ha collective. The audience was also able to participate in a reenactment of the song “Scantily Clad” as Haute & Freddy chose six members from the crowd to play a role of one of the characters in the song. With all of the additional acts and high usage of audience participation, the entire show truly felt akin to a real circus, but with outstanding vocals and unique musical showmanship.
