Psychedelic-rock trio The Well from Austin is returning to music for the first time this decade with “And Flames Ran Like Living Animals,” coming Sept. 14. Since releasing “Death and Consolation” in 2019, the band has consistently toured North America and recently expanded its reach by partnering with Spaceflight Records and UCE Agency. The long gap between records allowed the band to explore a depth in their work it hadn’t previously reached. "I think it’s our most diverse album because it’s packed with the intense emotional peaks and valleys that have defined the last 6 or 7 years. It’s been a wild ride, so of course this album reflects it,” said vocalist and guitarist Ian Graham. Its first launch with Spaceflight is the album’s first single, “New Hallelujah for The Damned,” which was released in July. The song thematically invites listeners to fight the forces above them.
Contrasting production elements such as choir-esque background vocals and a whirring lead guitar line host musical tension that keeps listeners on their toes. Alongside the album, the band will accompany new music with tour dates with supporting acts Moon Destroys and Pink Fuzz starting in August. The band will also perform a set at Austin’s Levitation Festival on Sept. 13. Live shows played a pivotal role in how the band developed the record. “Recalling the spirit with which we approached our first album, we spent time with the mood of each song, the dynamics, the storytelling, but we also came at them with the intent that they be played live. We were building a live set, more precious after the time away from that possibility,” said vocalist and bassist Lisa Alley. The Well and Moon Destroys will perform in Nashville on Sept. 4 at The 58.
