FKA twigs kicked off 2025 capturing the human experience on her third studio album, EUSEXUA. Dialing in and diving even deeper, the new full length companion album, EUSEXUA Afterglow, expands upon on the journey of a night out. With mind-bending production, immersive sonic landscapes, and entrancing melodies, this new addition to FKA twig’s discography cements her craft as one of a kind. While EUSEXUA leans into more tender and reflective qualities, EUSEXUA Afterglow leans into the abrasive moments of life. The sonic landscape immediately paints a different picture, as the album starts with the heavy hitting production of “Love Crimes”. Throughout the rest of the album, the sonic landscape perfectly matches the tone of a city at night. Stepping through clubs, empty alleyways, crowds and more, EUSEXUA Afterglow plays with bouncing between chaos and desolence. Songs like “Slushy” and “Touch A Girl” emulate a trembling sense of something new or unknown, where “Predictable Girl” oozes a hard and infectious sleazyness. An otherworldly sense is found on “HARD” and the PinkPantheress assisted “Wild And Alone” where FKA twig’s allows her voice and melodies to take the wheel. Perhaps EUSEXUA Afterglow could best be represented by “Sushi”, a moment on the album that taps into both the timid and harsh elements of the album.
While the first half of the song plays with flirty lyrics and production, the latter half of the song explodes into a whole dance rave. The most rewarding moment of EUSEXUA Afterglow comes on its last track “Stereo Boy”, where the introspective lyrics combine with trembling and erosive production to make a visceral experience (“I heard the static in your heart / Cause you’re just a stereo boy, stereo boy / I changed the station, but my pain, it still remained / Cause you’re just a stereo boy”). With this track, it almost feels as if the ten prior tracks took you on a journey that’s meant to distract from whatever situation may be occurring, just to be brought back to reality. Every emotion FKA twigs emulates on EUSEXUA Afterglow just paints an even more detailed picture of the human experience that she began painting on EUSEXUA. The attention-to-detail and unique craft on both projects are one-of-a-kind, and solidifies FKA twigs in her own category of artistry with two of the strongest albums of 2025. Unbound by expectation, EUSEXUA Afterglow thrives as an introspective look into the things in life we distract our minds with and the feelings that remain in orbit despite how hard you try to run.
