On one of Nashville’s final winter nights, Lime Cordiale’s dedicated fan base flooded Nashville's Exit In. The once closed-down calling card of live music has since been restored to its former infamy, and Lime Cordiale made the most of their time on the historic stage. Opening for the Australian duo was the Ohio native alt-rock duo The Orphan The Poet. This show melded midwestern roots with a down-under sound. The Orphan The Poet started the night off with a brand new indie-alt hype anthem entitled "Eureka". Full of catchy hooks and danceable bass lines the audience was electrified by the group’s performance. Bassist Jake Floyd immediately turns out tricks with his light pink bass guitar keeping in perfect time and creating the groove for the song while bouncing from stage right to left. The track “Carolina Reaper” was sizzling with flavor and full of rock and roll grit. Frontman David Eselgroth has the stage presence of Freddie Mercury. Energetic doesn’t begin to describe the kind of show Eselgroth puts on. Midway through the opening set the boys decided to do an alt-pop rendition of “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction that undoubtedly got the crowd dancing. Covering this 2010 hit was a great way to re-energize the audience and showcase their unique style through a song everyone knows. The openers ended their set with “Feeling Good (Could be Better)” a very tongue-in-cheek 80s synth-inspired light wave track. Based on their night in Nashville, The Orphan The Poet is setting the stage for their biggest year yet.
Lime Cordiale took to the stage and the crowd went crazy. With the group’s flannel-denim combo, you would’ve sworn they were Nashville natives. Fresh, vibrant, and beachy are the three words that come to mind when listening to the band’s latest releases. Cultivating a mix of new wave indie and feel-good rock, the band has distinguished themselves as one of Australia’s most up-and-coming rock bands. This international tour has been awaited and eagerly anticipated. The group opened the night with the number “Naturally.” A punchy alt-pop anthem that sent the crowd into a fever. This song truly and naturally embodies the spirit of Lime Cordiale’s discography. The group was heartfelt, sharing how excited they were to be in Nashville. They had only ever driven through it on tour, but this time around they got to perform and be tourists for a day on Broadway. Paying homage to the city and its roots the band introduced “Enough of the Sweet Talk” as what they described as an Aussie country song. This song was witty, refreshing, and you guessed it: sweet.
Playing off the crowd’s palpable energy, Lime Cordiale experimented with their own music, adding in new vocal inflections, riffs, and runs. A group that sounds just as phenomenal live as they do recorded is a rare skill set that Lime Cordiale has undoubtedly mastered. Touching on hot topics like Imposter Syndrome, Money, and Love, Lime Cordiale somehow found nuance and brightness in every track. This band is a guaranteed mood booster, you can’t help but smile when they play. The band ended on a high note with a rendition of “Temper Temper”, the band's hottest record that has amassed an astounding 85 million streams. This song is a rougher more 70s-inspired high energy throwback that incorporates elements from the Allman Brothers into a modern landscape. One of the most anticipated songs of the night definitely left its mark on the Nashville crowd.
