Despite the rainy weather outside, fans of indie rock braved the storm and made their way to Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl to see Soccer Mommy, the alternative rock project created by singer-songwriter and fellow Nashvillian Sophia Allison. Celebrating the release of her album Evergreen, which was released in October 2024, Soccer Mommy hit the road at the beginning of January. She finally concluded her tour with this stop in Nashville, supported by singer-songwriter Hana Vu. Both musicians created waves of nostalgia with their raw, vulnerable melodies and lyrics. When the lights went down and Soccer Mommy took the stage, the crowd’s excitement could be felt and heard as claps and cheers echoed throughout the venue. The band opened with “Abigail”, a favorite from the recent album Evergreen. The crowd swayed and sang along as Allison’s delicate voice and the shimmering sound of her guitar captivated the audience.
Allison and her band created the perfect blend of melancholic lyrics and bright riffs, with their tones and personalities meshing together easily. The band performed a well-balanced mix of older material and newer music, showcasing Allison’s extensive catalog. Crowd favorites included “circle the drain” and “Your Dog”, which had the audience singing along and swaying with each other. The intimate setting had the audience feeling personally connected with Allison as she sang heartbreaking yet infectious songs like “Still Clean” and “crawling in my skin”. As the evening ended, fans of the band cheered as they returned to the stage to perform two encore songs. I would highly recommend seeing Soccer Mommy to anyone who appreciates the delicate yet firm pang of nostalgia that indie rock brings. If you’re looking for a show that can create an intimate setting and an instant connection between the audience and the artist, look no further than Soccer Mommy.
