On Friday night, The Black Keys played their second night of a two-night run at the Pinnacle in Nashville, reminding the city of the band’s unmatched groove and grit. Supported by opener Eddie 9V, The Black Keys drew an eager crowd who were excited to hear a night full of rock and blues. Fresh off the release of their fourteenth studio album and third cover album Peaches!, duo Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney opened the show without backup, showcasing their undeniable musical chemistry. Auerbach’s signature bluesy, smoky guitar tone, which has defined The Black Keys’ sound for two decades, filled the room with ease. Carney’s heart-thumping drums served as the perfect counterweight to Auerbach’s guitar. The duo effortlessly made the relatively stripped-back performance sound lush and full.
Soon, the rest of the band made their way to the stage and to their instruments, engulfing the room in blues-rock bliss. The band played fan favorites such as “Tighten Up”, “Lonely Boy” and “Howlin’ For You”, which fit perfectly beside newer songs and covers off of Peaches! Opening act Eddie 9V joined the band on guitar for their song “Just Couldn’t Tie Me Down” and a cover of Willie Griffin’s “When There’s Smoke, There’s Fire”. The audience could feel the authenticity radiating from the stage, making these two tunes some of the most entertaining to watch. Nashville was lucky enough to have The Black Keys all to themselves for two nights, and they certainly delivered. From the grit of Auerbach’s guitar to the power of Carney’s drums, the crowd danced along with every note, making their night with the band one to remember.
