Indie pop favorites, Peach Pit, made their grand return to Nashville on Friday, October 4th. The Vancouver-based band graced the stage at Marathon Music Works in celebration of their latest release, Magpie. The venue was packed with loyal fans and casual listeners alike, all eager to see what the “Fall Quest” tour had in store for them. The electricity in the air was building as the opening act began priming the stage for the main act. Opener Miya Folick delivered a perfect performance, spreading an exciting energy throughout the venue. Soon enough, the lights went down and Peach Pit took the stage. Opening the show with favorites like “Drop the Guillotine” and “Black Licorice”, the audience was immediately singing along with every word.
Vocalist and guitarist Neil Smith’s vocals were iconically Peach Pit, giving the sound a garage rock feel while simultaneously dripping with vulnerability. Guitarist Christopher Vanderkooy was a crowd favorite, as his personality and talent lit up the stage. Between ripping jangly, fun guitar riffs and dancing with Smith all over the stage, the audience could not get enough. His tone, both bright and surfy, gave the performance the unmistakable sound of Peach Pit. The rhythm of Mikey Pascuzzi’s drums and the thumping of Peter Wilson’s bass kept the band perfectly tight and groovy, while also allowing them to showcase their iconic laidback vibe. Slowing down the set with songs like “Tell Me You Love Me” and “Wax & Wayne”, both tracks off of Magpie, the band was able to expose their sensitive side. Finishing off the night with the popular track “Tommy’s Party”, the people of Nashville knew that this was a night to remember.
