From the screen to the stage, Kylie Cantrall has made it her mission to entertain as means of connection. She makes this clear on her newest EP, “Valley Girl Problems,” which was released in July 2026 via Republic Records. The project will be accompanied by the Valley Girl Problems Tour this fall. Cantrall got her start in the spotlight on Disney Channel, where she acted in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” and starred in films “Descendants: The Rise of Red” and “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland.” She also toured with fellow Disney franchise performers on the “Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour,” which visited arenas across the United States in 2025. Coming off of the deluxe EP “B.O.Y.”, Cantrall meant to continue a trend of energetic anthems, but that focus didn’t match her feelings. She instead decided to write music based on her evolving state of mind. Though some unreleased songs follow the previous trend, “Valley Girl Problems” ended up with nine tracks that capture her growing point of view.
“I'm so happy that I was able to put out this project the way it is, and it feels like every song that was essential to it was definitely on there. But there are a lot of unreleased songs, soon to be released,” Cantrall said, during an °1824 conference. “Carrie Bradshaw” is the prime example of Cantrall’s self-discovery as the project’s first single. She directly grapples with if she has “to outgrow the past to fit into your future,” a fate she’ll learn the answer to by carrying vintage baggage and gaining new experiences. Other songs such as “Space Between” show Cantrall deciding where she finds worth as she mourns the connection a failed romance prevented. As a native Californian, Cantrall uses songwriting to paint a modern image of what a valley girl is, but it is supported further by sonic and visual inspiration from 90s RnB and 2000s aesthetics. She locks in the former by sampling Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” in “Closet” and the latter by the need to curate herself, which she discussed with Imagine Magazine in July. The Valley Girl Problems Tour is where Cantrall intends to bring her visuals and personality to a new scale. Performances will start on Sept. 25 in Minneapolis and will continue through Oct. 22, ending in Los Angeles.
