Jeremy Jordan’s rock band filled Nashville’s Exit/In with enthusiastic fans on Sunday, September 28. First, opener Nicole Alexis played some original grunge pop music, like her vulnerable song “Lost Sometimes,” as well as an electrifying cover of Britney Spears’s “Toxic.” Equally impressive to her vocal prowess was her excellent backing band. Next, Age of Madness took the stage, with Broadway star and band frontman Jeremy Jordan entering last. Though the show began with technical difficulties, Jordan entertained the crowd with quick banter. Violinist Sarah Charness held a striking pink violin, but otherwise the show was visually unremarkable, with the band and frontman mostly dressed in casual clothing. However, the musical skill of each instrumentalist as well as Jordan’s vocals carried the night with “wow” moments and inherent theatricality mixed with rock sounds.
Guitarist Mikael even sang as Jordan picked up the guitar, and Jordan shouted out Mikael’s songwriting skills before playing a new song titled after the Greek god Hades. Jordan also mentioned that each setlist in this show was different, which allows every audience to experience an authentically unique show. Age of Madness played a mix of released and unreleased songs for their Nashville setlist, beginning with an unreleased song titled after Greek goddess Athena. Overall, the show was high energy and showcased the one-of-a-kind talent of each musician. Dedicated theater fans and rock and rollers alike seemed to enjoy a night of madness with Age of Madness.
