All of our lives, we are told to embrace the present circumstances, to remain in the here and now, to take the best of what we’re given, and to stay present. Yet we are not often encouraged to dream of what comes next. With the uncertainty of the future, oftentimes we might not want to. Still, Mia Van de Loo is inspiring listeners to imagine a hopeful tomorrow with her upcoming indie folk- pop ballad, “Someday”. Swooping in with twinkling guitar and enchanting piano, fans are immediately captivated by the magical nature of the track, while understated lyricism keeps their attention. The song depicts a scenario many young romantics know all too well: Imagining an easy future with the person you want, even if they don’t want you back. “Someday” was created as part of an English assignment Mia Van de Loo wrote in high school. The prompt was to create a poem and, little by little, write the same piece in fewer words, keeping the meaning intact.
Through her process, she uncovered the intricacies and nuances many experience during their teenage years- nothing is ever as simple as it seems. While drawing inspiration from her younger self, Van de Loo infuses the current version of the song with a newfound maturity, expressed through expansive instrumentals and elegant melodies. The stanza-structured verses provide poetic flow and creativity, while the smooth composition welcomes listeners to embody its meaning. By breathing new life into a song she wrote years ago, Van de Loo reveals a deeper message: It’s not always about the person you yearn for; it’s about the hope within choosing yourself. That despite the condition we find ourselves in, someday we will have what we have always known to be ours.
