Dua Lipa has given us another taste of her genius with her latest single release, “Training Season.” The sound is undoubtedly Dua Lipa branded and does not stray too far from her previous releases like “Houdini” or “Physical”. While some casual listeners have commented that her songs are incredibly similar to each other, fans have pointed out that she has simply “found her sound.”
The new single maintains the elements of disco pop and dance pop that she is known for. A Dua Lipa song is incomplete without the disco-like beat that she has made her staple. While some artists like to experiment far out of their genre, it seems that Dua Lipa has found her niche. Even so, she is still experimenting and developing as an artist, while maintaining her identity and sound. The lyrics of the song are extremely relatable, as Dua recounts her endless date failures. She sings “are you tricky cause I’ve been there [...] I don’t need to learn my lesson twice.”
Even the title itself, “Training Season”, is commentary on how she has had to teach and mold each of her past love interests into the type of person she can be with. The relatability in her lyrics is part of what contributes to her massive success. Those lyrics that listeners can empathize with are the same lyrics that people scream at the top of their lungs, on repeat. Dua Lipa’s third studio album, the title and exact release date of which is currently unknown, is set to come out in 2024. We can expect it to be filled with more anthems like “Houdini” and “Training Season”.
