Starting with a strong hook, Australia’s Felicity paints a portrait of modern existence through a “lo-fi daydream” in her newest single, “Half Sad.” You’ll immediately notice her pop soundscape is tinged with ever-increasing layers of depth and musical intricacy. Taking the mantle of artists such as Chappell Roan and perhaps a more off-the-beaten-path Sabrina Carpenter, Felicity sings about her feelings of numbness and inability to be completely happy or completely hopeless. Leaning fully into this modern sentiment, she gives a voice to an altogether prevalent attitude among the younger folks of today’s generations. Putting glittery pop tracks and instrumentation over an attractively blithe and bonny sentiment is in right now, but Felicity has cracked at keeping it fresh and current in a way unlike any of her peers.
To be happy, blissful, and joyous is quite literally the meaning of the word Felicity. To those who are familiar with Felicity as an artist, they will know her sound, but to those who are not, they will find something fresh and new. Dealing with themes of love, loss, and self-recovery was an integral part of her debut EP, You Take Me To Dinner But You’ll Never Feed My Soul. It is clear that Felicity is truly up and coming, simply based on the increasing popularity and relevance of her subject matter. "Half Sad" is a stellar venture out by an incredible artist to watch. "Half Sad" seemingly permeates into the hearts and minds of its listeners as it drives us to hear more. So with an ear for the times, a voice for her mind, and a sound for the ages, Felicity delivers authentic, relatable art for her times and, hopefully, for pop artists beyond.
